Born and raised on the Northside, Cecil Clarke’s life passion has been public service. He has demonstrated that dedication through his work within the community, with the church, on various boards and during his time in government. Cecil believes in service, and in life-long learning.A recent graduate of Theological Studies from the Atlantic School of Theology, Cecil previously served as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Cape Breton North from 2001 to 2011. Cecil then transitioned to municipal politics, becoming the Mayor of Cape Breton Regional Municipality; first in 2012 then again in 2016.Known for his focus on economic development and community revitalization, Cecil has been a key figure in shaping the future of CBRM and Cape Breton Island as a whole.Cecil has a talent for big-picture thinking. He recognizes needs, envisions solutions, and creates actionable plans. He is skilled at bringing together various stakeholders—people, organizations, provincial and federal governments—regardless of their political affiliations, to collaborate, take action, and deliver results.Cecil Clarke is dedicated to fostering a prosperous, vibrant, and safe community for all through teamwork, collaboration, and strong leadership.Cecil lives in Groves Point with his husband Kyle.
